OSX by default uses the application ‘Preview’ to render forms instead of Acrobat Reader. ‘Preview’ does not support ‘Preview’ does not support PDF forms, therefore will not work …... In preferences -> general -> untick open corresponding PDF preview with TeX files will not open the internal pdf viewer when you open any .tex file. Interestingly, I find windows 7 does not like two instances of the same program opening at the same time so have to use sumatrapdf as well.

Mac Preview Default Pdf Viewer Is Not Working

Adobe Reader and/or Adobe Acrobat are notorious for not supporting auto-refreshing the view of a PDF which changed on disk. If you need that, you should switch your viewer. SumatraPDF is available for Windows and does auto-refresh the view.
